New Directions

Casa de Amparo’s New Directions transitional housing program provides assistance to young adults ages 18 to 24 who have been emancipated from foster care. With the program’s support, former foster youth are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to make a successful transition from foster care to independent living.

This program is geared toward stopping the cycle of abuse and neglect by equipping young people to develop healthy and effective lifestyles and skills.

  • Employment, education and career planning
  • Money management
  • Life skills training
  • Relationship mediation
  • Support for overall medical and mental health

Casa Kids in the New Directions Program

  • 18-24 years of age
  • Emancipated from foster care
  • From San Diego County

The Program and Facility

  • Founded in June 2008
  • Oceanside apartment living
  • Fully furnished and equipped

Referrals and Fees

  • San Diego County Child Welfare Services provides referrals to this program. Teens from Casa de Amparo’s Children’s Shelter may be referred to this program, as well. Potential clients can self-refer by contacting New Directions at 760-295-4600 to determine eligibility.
  • New Directions is funded by government contracts, grants and private donations
  • Participants contribute to rent on a graduated plan

Hours of Operation

  • New Directions maintains on-call, 24-hour supervision.
  • Office hours for advocate/educators are flexible.
