March 25, 2014 (San Marcos, CA) – On Monday, March 3, 2014, Casa de Amparo hosted several of San Diego’s top chefs in preparation for the 18th annual Meet the Chefs in May. The meeting included a productive pre-event brainstorm session and a full tour of Casa de Amparo’s Casa Kids Campus in San Marcos, CA, a safe haven for abused and neglected children ages prenatal to 24 years old. As chefs learned more about Casa de Amparo’s nearly four decade history, interacted with staff members, and toured the children’s homes, they left the campus blown away, inspired, and excited to donate their signature dishes at Meet the Chefs in order to raise money for the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect.
What started out as Chefs of Del Mar has now transformed into one of San Diego’s top annual food and wine events. Not only is Meet the Chefs a favorite culinary event for chefs and guests alike, but it is also a moving and meaningful way for the community to join the fight against child abuse. “I’ve been part of Casa de Amparo’s spectacular cause and the startup of Meet the Chefs since its inception in 1996,” said Pamplemousse Grille Chef and Owner Jeffrey Strauss. “To see the event’s growth and development with the support of committed staff, donors, and businesses for nearly two decades is nothing short of a miracle.”
