April 9, 2013 (San Marcos, CA) - Sharon Delphenich, Executive Director of Casa de Amparo, was recognized at the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Meeting as a recipient of a STARS Award, an annual recognition program presented by the San Diego County Health and Human Services Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council for achievements in child abuse prevention.
Board Chair Supervisor Greg Cox welcomed recipients at a reception preceding the meeting. STAR Award recipients were individually recognized at the beginning of the Board of Supervisors Meeting. Supervisor Bill Horn presented Sharon with a plaque commemorating her many years of work on behalf San Diego County children, youth, and families affected by or at risk of abuse or neglect.
Other STARS award recipients were Child Abuse Detective Ali Perez and Sergeant Craig Johnson (Ambushed and seriously wounded when they attempted to arrest a man wanted for molesting his girlfriend’s two young daughters); Michael Carr, Executive Director of San Diego Youth Advocates (SAY SD); Brandi Crocker, a Voices for Children CASA; and South Bay Community Services for their Mi Escuelita preschool.
