In June, 2012 Casa de Amparo celebrated the official opening of the Casa Kids Campus in San Marcos, CA. The San Diego Chargers also dedicated Casa de Amparo at that time as the San Diego Chargers Courage House, part of the Ed Block Foundation's national NFL network of Courage Houses, nonprofit organizations who partner with their local NFL teams in working toward the goal of child abuse prevention.
Casa Kids in Residential Services (formerly the Children's Shelter) moved from the San Luis Rey Mission location in Oceanside to the new campus and are enjoying their cozy rooms and home-like environment in brand new California-style cottages on campus surrounded by walking trails, playing fields, BBQ area, Basketball Court and garden where they're growing their own fruits and veggies.
All buildings on the campus are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In addition to those who are able-bodied, Casa de Amparo serves abused or neglected children with special health care needs. The campus is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified by The U.S. Green Building Council.
Casa de Amparo offers six integrated programs focused on the treatment and prevention of child abuse. The Hayward Child Development Center preschool for at-risk children and families, North County Coastal Family Visitation, and North Coastal New Directions, our transitional housing and support program for former foster youth, remain in Oceanside. Residential Services, the Young Parent Network that provides support for pregnant and parenting youth aged 24 and younger, North County Inland Family Visitation, and North Inland New Directions are now located at the San Marcos Casa Kids Campus as well as Casa de Amparo Administrative Offices. Counseling Services, for program clients and outpatient private pay clients, are also provided in both Oceanside and San Marcos.
HELP US BURN OUR MORTGAGE
Thanks to our generous supporters, Casa de Amparo has raised all but 2.5 million dollars of our sixteen million-dollar Campaign for Casa Kids. We are almost 80% of the way towards making the Casa Kids Campus debt-free! We are confident that, with your support, we will soon be able to "burn our mortgage." Without a mortgage, we’ll be able to devote maximum resources to enhancing and expanding direct-service programs to meet evolving needs and change the lives of abused, neglected and at-risk children and families in San Diego County.
Please let your friends and family know why you support Casa de Amparo. Encourage them to do the same and join the effort to end child abuse in our community. In supporting this new campus, you are building a lasting legacy to care for vulnerable children who are victims of abuse or neglect.
WHAT A DEBT-FREE MORTGAGE WILL DO
Resources not spent on a mortgage will go a long way to enhance current services and create new programs to meet evolving needs in the community. New needs that have recently emerged include help for underserved abused or neglected children with special healthcare needs and young adults or teens who are pregnant or parenting. Responding to these critical unmet needs of vulnerable youth, Casa de Amparo obtained licensing to accommodate children with special healthcare needs in our residential programs and launched our Young Parent Network for pregnant or parenting young adults under 24 years of age. These expanded services started this year and are just the beginning for what is possible once Casa de Amparo no longer has to divert resources towards a mortgage.
We live in a dynamic community and it is our mission to meet the needs of children in any circumstances that involve abuse or neglect or put them at risk. A debt-free campus puts Casa de Amparo in an optimal position when applying for program funding as it validates our capacity to expand.
As anyone who has ever owned a home knows, a mortgage is a major expense in the monthly budget. It limits other things you might need or want to do. Casa de Amparo is no different.
Please help us reach the point where we can joyfully burn our mortgage, knowing the money saved will go directly to helping children and families heal and grow.
