Help Us Save Transitional Housing Programs (THP-Plus)
for At-Risk Youth

In his proposed budget for FY 2010-11, Governor Schwarzenegger recommends the complete elimination of THP-Plus funding if the state is unable to secure an additional $6.9 billion in federal funding.

Such a cut would devastate Casa's highly successful New Directions program for youth who have "aged out" of the foster care system. Studies show that, without additional support, over 40% of this population will become homeless, incarcerated or dependent upon public assistance. Prevention programs such as THP-Plus are not only effective, they cost far less than the services required to address the outcomes that result without them.

Please join us in asking the legislature to maintain funding
for Transitional Housing Programs:

1. Call your state legislators
You can find out who represents you in the State Assembly and State Senate by visiting
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html.

2. Write a letter to your representatives

Thank you for your support of Casa de Amparo and all of our Casa Kids!

Our Story

In 1978, Casa de Amparo opened the doors of its emergency shelter to children who had been removed from their homes as a result of abuse and negelct.

Within two years, our Child Development Center was established, providing preventive services for families at risk of abuse.

In 2008, we began to pave the way to independent living for young adults emancipated from the foster care system, with our transitional housing program, continuing to pursue child abuse prevention.

Today, Casa de Amparo is an impressive force in the field of child abuse prevention and treatment, with diverse programs and strong community support.

Our goal is to help abused and at-risk children to heal, to grow beyond their difficulties, and to create futures full of hope for themselves that will ultimately affect the future of our communities. Casa Kids and their families deserve the expert, caring services Casa de Amparo provides.

Casa de Amparo is a 501c (3) nonprofit located in Oceanside, part of San Diego County, California.
